Starting The Build

When we tell people we are building a campground, one of the first things they ask is: Are there any structures on the property yet? Lucky for us, yes, the land did already have a structure on it. Built in the 1940’s, an old schoolhouse remains on the property. The building was a space made for young children in the community to learn and grow over many years, but after the last class was held in 2012, the schoolhouse became abandoned.

It became a spot where kids knew they could throw rocks through the windows, graffiti the walls, and take part in substance abuse. Many people in the community who attended this school growing up were saddened to see what was happening to the place and thought that when the land was purchased, the building would simply get knocked down and soon no one would even know a schoolhouse had been there. Much to the community’s surprise, the building wasn’t knocked down, but completely renovated and brought back to life again. With three large classrooms, a full kitchen, two bathrooms with showers, a laundry room, and one large main room, the old schoolhouse was the perfect size to be used as the campground community building.

We are so happy that a space that used to be used as a space for children to learn and grow, can still be used as a place for people to learn and grow their businesses while traveling on the road full time.

There is a lot of work ahead of us, and some days we may question what we got ourselves into, but the excitement for this project definitely outweighs the fears – we can’t wait to share this space with other entrepreneurs in the RV and camping community!
