After living on the road full-time for two and a half years in our Class C RV, we have taken an even bigger plunge into our next adventure: developing a campground!

I’m sure you’re wondering, how did we get here? Was it land gifted from a family member? Did we win the lottery? Did we stumble upon it during our travels and decide to plant some roots? In a way, all these inferences are correct. We did, somewhat, stumble upon this land thanks to a podcast we started listening to while we were on the road called the RV Entrepreneur, hosted by Heath Padget. The more we listened to this podcast the more we learned about other RV entrepreneurs and realized we wanted to find a way to connect personally with this community. It wasn’t long before we learned that Heath had put on an RV Entrepreneur Summit for several years and we wanted to be a part of the next one! The summit involved bringing together entrepreneurs and creators in the rv community to one space and sharing their stories and networking with other like minded individuals, it was everything we had been looking for. Once we learned that the sixth summit would be held at a property Heath and his wife Alyssa had purchased in Montrose, Colorado in 2021, we knew we had to get in on the action and attend the summit.

Before we attended the summit, we stayed on their property and got to know Heath and Alyssa better than what we had learned about them through his podcast and social media. They were expecting their second child in the very near future and had a lot of other plans and goals they wanted to concur. As we chatted with them about their plans for the property, we learned that they wanted to create an RV park that was not only a place to stay, but had a coworking space and catered to people who were working from the road or trying to start a business while traveling. We loved this thought, as creating a campground that was designed for the younger generation was something that Scott and I had discussed doing down the road if the right location presented itself.

A couple of months went by and it was time for the summit! We had such an amazing time at the event and are so happy we made the decision to attend. We not only made a lot of new friends in the rv community, but we also learned a lot from the speakers and content creators that presented at the event. As you can imagine, Heath and Alyssa spoke at the event as well and shared their plans for the RV park with everyone – it was such an awesome plan they had shared and everyone was super excited to see this idea come to life.

Several months after the summit, Heath and Alyssa had their second child and expressed to the community that building an rv park was no longer at the top of their list of goals and they wanted to focus on a different current life path. Before they had shared this news with everyone, they had reached out to us because they knew we were in search of land to build something very similar. We are so thankful they did this, as it didn’t take long for Scott and I to decide, YES – we want to buy their land and bring this campground/co-working space to fruition.

So, in a way, we did win the lottery. Montrose is a beautiful part of Colorado, and Heath and Alyssa knocked out some of the hard steps (getting the zoning and the old school house on the property renovated) for us. We feel so lucky that our paths crossed with Heath and Alyssa, and our ideas to create a campground geared towards the younger generation of travelers merged together.

Lastly, we did put a lot of our hard work and savings into this property, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our family. This is a big risk for us, and having our families support has really helped ease a bit of the stress of making such a big life decision to take on this project!

We have a lot of work ahead of us, but we are excited for this new adventure and hope you add our campground to your list of destinations!
