Ten Things To Get Your Guy For Christmas That Likes to Camp

Not going to lie- this was an easy blog post to write. Why? One, because I’m a dude and I camp. Second, camping gear is the same as shopping for tools…The more gear you have, the better you can perform in your element!

Here’s my recommendations for Christmas presents for the man in your life who likes to camp:

1. Hatchet

Anyone can go down to Harbor Freight and pick themselves up a cheap hatchet (I did), but isn’t one of the points of giving gifts is that you can give that practical someone something cooler than what they would buy for themselves? And so they will think of you every time they swing that hard stainless steel blade down and destroy whatever is in its path?!

That’s why I recommend the Schrade Hatchet with Stainless Steel Blade. It looks cool, is solid construction, and won’t break the bank.

2. Mess Kit

Whether your guy is a backpacker or a car camper, having the right gear to cook up a feast means that you’ll be eating better and tastier meals in the great outdoors, right?? So get him a nice lightweight mess kit.

3. Multi-Tool

I can’t even begin to tell you how often I use this multi-tool from Victorinox that I received as a gift 10 years ago and goes with me everywhere! It literally works the same as it did when I got it, even after being used 100’s of times since.

4. Fly Fishing Rod

Fishing can be boring, which is why fly fishing steps up the action and makes things a little more proactive. OR if you want to see your man go from sitting in a chair drinking beer to being a little more active, maybe this is the present you should get him!

5. Cooking Gear

Every man loves to cook directly with fire, so why not get the man in your life some decent cookware so that he can get a little soot on his pans.

Lodge has been making great cast iron products for years and this one comes pre-seasoned with a hot handle holder.

6. Hammock

Personally, I don’t like to sleep in hammocks overnight, BUT I’m a big fan of naps in the breeze. With plenty of colors to choose from, you’re sure to find one that matches your style.

7. Camp Chair

First of all, if there’s one thing I’ve learned while camping is that as the guy who has to attend to all things outdoors (wood on the fire, chop wood, secure things from wind, chase away bears, etc.) is that you don’t sit for long and it’s always handy to have a side table. This foldable chair has that (with a cup holder that fits mugs!) plus it has a built in cooler! How ‘cool’ is that!?

8. Solar Power

When deciding where to get our camp power from, I did a lot of research on solar and where to store. Since we motor coach RV, we went with a built in system to the RV, HOWEVER, if I had gone the route of getting something great for car or boat camping (and really still for RV’ing), I’m certain that I would have gotten this solar and storage set up from Jackery.

9. DSLR Camera

This is the Nikon camera that I use and have caught some amazing shots with this entry level DSLR. It comes with an 18-55mm lens which is great for landscapes and portraits and also comes with a 70-300mm lens which is great for capturing animals in the wild.

I bought mine from Costco, but I like this bundle on Amazon better with all the extras it includes. It also includes a tripod, a remote flash, some lens filters, and a handful of other things the Costco bundle didn’t include.

10. Ice Chest

Make the gift of a cooler count! Go with the rollable Yeti Tundra Haul. And go with something not white because white is played out. Perhaps grey?

(P.S. Honestly, cooler’s aren’t that exciting, so if you wrap it up in wrapping paper and a bow, be sure to throw a case of beer in there too!)
